Nienke is a researcher focused on upper-limb dysfunctions in breast cancer survivors, examining how treatment-related impairments influence real-world arm use. Her work is grounded in the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health framework, allowing her to study body functions, activities, and participation in an integrated way. A central part of her research is the development and validation of machine-learning techniques that use wearable sensors to objectively capture upper-limb functional use. Through this approach, she aims to improve understanding, monitoring, and ultimately rehabilitation of upper-limb dysfunctions after breast cancer.
