Marie is a PhD student at the University of Antwerp within the MOVANT Research Group, supervised by Prof. Dr. Nick Gebruers. Her research is part of the FWO-TBM funded BECOME project, which investigates the effectiveness of BoostEd COMpression for the treatment of lower limb chronic edema.
Her study focuses on patients with chronic edema of the lower limbs. Compared to standard care, an intensified compression therapy is applied, in which compression bandages are reapplied three times a day.
Primary outcomes include the number of treatment sessions required to achieve a non-pitting edema and the non-inferiority of the intensified compression during the maintenance phase. Secondary outcomes assess quality of life, therapy adherence, patient acceptance, time efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Through this research, Marie aims to provide evidence-based insights to improve the management of chronic edema and enhance patients’ daily lives.
