Michel Mertens is a (sports)physiotherapist and obtained his PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Antwerp in 2023. His doctoral project focused on prognostic factors and the clinical course of frozen shoulder from a biopsychosocial perspective. He conducted doctoral research on which factors could predict the disability and quality of life in patients with frozen shoulder and the clinical course of these factors. Currently, Michel is working as postdoctoral research at the University of Antwerp (research group MOVANT) and Maastricht University (research group CAPHRI). One of the most important aims of Michel is to translate and integrate research into clinical practice and improve patient care. Michel is interested in developing prediction models and optimizing healthcare, with special attention for underlying mechanisms (e.g., autonomic function, metabolic factors and chronic low-grade inflammation).
